tubal ligation reversalIf you’re like many women, when you first opted for your tubal ligation, you probably felt pretty secure in your decision. You felt as though your family was complete, and you were ready to raise the children you had and begin to think about building a life for your family.

However, sometimes circumstances change in your life, and sometimes you just simply have a change of heart. Fortunately, tubal ligation reversal is available to you so that you can have another baby (or more!). For many women, that’s the easy part. The hard part is knowing how to break the news to your other children.

If you’ve been putting off having that conversation with them, here are a few tips you can use to start opening the lines of communication with them.

Tip #1: Don’t put off telling them what’s going on

It’s possible that your children will overhear you having a conversation with your partner about having another baby. Your kids may become confused, especially if they knew that you weren’t able to have more children. It’s better to be open and upfront with them so that you cultivate a sense of trust.

Tip #2: Explain the procedure in simple terms

Once your children understand that Mum will be having surgery to be able to have another baby, they may be concerned about the procedure itself. Depending on the age of your kids, you may need to have separate conversations with them. However, keep your explanations simple so that they can understand what’s going to happen. Be sure to reassure them that even though you’re having surgery, you’re going to be OK.

Tip #3: Be honest about your desire to add to your family

It’s important to be honest with your children about your desire to have another baby. Let them know that you feel as though an important member of your family is “missing,” and you want to give them the joy of having a new brother or sister. Reinforce your love for them, and let them know that the new baby will only make your family more complete.

This is an exciting time for your family! If you’re considering having a tubal ligation reversal, you probably have a lot of questions. We would love to answer them for you. If you’d like more information about the procedure, please contact us today.
